We started the week with a wonderful Reading Assembly led by Mrs Gillibrand and our Year 6 Librarians, celebrating the power of reading and how it enriches our lives. The children learned that while the alphabet has 26 letters, English has 44 sounds - and our amazing brains turn these into words, making reading a truly magical process.
The assembly highlighted how reading strengthens vocabulary, fuels imagination, builds critical thinking, helps us understand the world, supports relaxation and boosts academic performance. It also offers a sustainable, screen‑free source of entertainment. As Einstein famously said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge."
With 2026 marking the National Year of Reading, we are encouraging every child to read a little more each day. Families might enjoy creating a cosy reading space, joining a library, starting a book club or taking part in the Upper School Reading Challenge. And remember - all reading counts, from audiobooks to recipes and magazines.
If your child would like help choosing their next book, please come and chat to us - they might be surprised by what they discover!
