Moving to Senior School

Academically, Micklefield punches well above its weight as a small, non-selective, independent school.

Our bespoke and well-planned curriculum is taught throughout the school and fully prepares the children for entry into senior school. Children access a wide range of subjects which offer a breadth of learning opportunities, including a strong focus on personal development. In Years 5 and 6, there is a tried-and-tested support programme, which provides children with the necessary skills to confidently take part in the senior school application process. Our overriding aim is to ensure that we support families to find the ‘right fit’ senior school so that their children will thrive in their new environments. This may be to one of the senior schools in the RGS family (Reigate Grammar School (RGS) and RGS Surrey Hills) or to other top schools both loaclly or further afield.

The Route to a Senior School within the Reigate Grammar School Family

Micklefield has been part of the Reigate Grammar School Family since 2024.  Since then, the RGS family has grown and now consists of two senior schools (Reigate Grammar School and RGS Surrey Hills), three junior schools with nurseries (Micklefield School, Chinthurst School and Reigate St Mary's), a pre-prep and nursery (St Christopher's, Epsom) and an increasing number of international schools.

All Micklefield pupils in Year 5 receive early offers for entry to either Reigate Grammar School or RGS Surrey Hills without the need to sit an entrance exam. This provides a secure pathway and allows children to move on within a consistent educational ethos, supported pastorally and academically. It also ensures that Year 6 can be enjoyed as a fulfilling year of learning and personal growth rather than being dominated by test preparation.

The route to other senior schools 

For families considering other pathways, we have excellent relationships with many senior schools in the region. These links, combined with a rigorous 11+ support programme (often tailored specifically to the destination school of choice) mean that we are ideally placed to help children gain places at their chosen schools.

We work closely with families to provide a high level of guidance and expertise at every stage of the senior school application process.
