We are excited to announce a collaborative STEM project between Micklefield, Reigate St Mary’s and Chinthurst school. Across the year, twelve Year 5 pupils will design and build their very own Formula 1 car, guided by Mr McShane and Mr Winmill at Reigate Grammar School.
This week, pupils built basic model cars using craft knives and added cardboard wheels with a laser printer. They showed resilience when challenged to modify 2D drawings, considering friction, drag and downforce.
The project will end with a national race, where their CO₂-powered cars, reaching speeds up to 60mph, will compete against other schools.
We can’t wait to see what our young engineers will achieve!
