Children in Lower School were treated to a very exciting visit from a special guest - Henry the Hedgehog! Graham (Henry's kind and knowledgeable owner) brought Henry into school to help the children learn more about hedgehogs and how we can care for these wonderful creatures.
The children were captivated as they watched Henry explore and curl up into his famous ball. They asked thoughtful questions and learned all about his diet, habitat and the importance of protecting wildlife.
Did you know hedgehogs have around 5,000 spikes? A baby hedgehog is called a hoglet and these adorable creatures are nocturnal and hibernate from November until March or April - almost half the year! They can swim and even climb high fences but if they can’t find a way over the top, they simply roll into a ball and tumble back down.
Henry, who is 9 months old, was a delight. His favourite food is cat or dog food and the children loved getting to know him.
Thank you to Saint Francis Animal Care and to Graham for visiting us and making the day so memorable!
