Boys Sports News

This week all the boys in Upper School played cricket matches against Caterham School.

The Year 3 boys got things underway on Tuesday and had a lovely game. Some excellent batting including a six, saw them post a reasonable first innings score.  However, a few too many wides during the bowling innings meant Caterham took the win.

On Wednesday all the Year 5 and 6 boys travelled to Caterham. The A team delivered a strong performance. Fielding first, all ten boys bowled very well to restrict Caterham to 75-8 in their 18 overs to win by 9 wickets with 10 overs to spare.  The B team had a much closer match, with all the boys bowling well throughout but narrowly missed out on a win by just 8 runs.

The C team also had a great game, enjoying plenty of cricket and were looking in a strong position when time was called.

On Thursday the Year 4 boys showed great determination, bowling straight and running hard between the wickets, but unfortunately lost in another closely contested match.

Girls Sports News

With all the Year 3-6 girls matches unfortunately cancelled this week, it was wonderful opportunity to play inter-year matches at school instead.

On Wednesday, Year 5 and 6 played against each other and demonstrated clear progress. There was greater control and accuracy when bowling and when batting, the girls played with increased confidence and more thoughtful shot selection. Fielding was organised and effective, with growing understanding of positioning and match awareness. Overall, the matches provided a valuable opportunity to apply their learning in a competitive setting, highlighting the progress they have made.

On Thursday, the Year 3 and 4 girls also took part in mixed year group cricket matches, focussing on developing their understanding of the game. The girls showed improved understanding of when to run between the wickets, growing in confidence in making quick decisions and supporting each other through clear communication. In the field, the girls remained alert and ready at all times, reacting quickly to the ball and working well as a team.

The mixed‑year teams encouraged collaboration, confidence and teamwork, and it was pleasing to see the girls learning from one another and becoming more assured in all areas of the game.

Looking Ahead

Next week, we look forward to more cricket fixtures against Banstead, Hazelwood, Reigate St Marys and Ewell Castle.
