Lodestone House Catering - Food Sustainability Assembly

Today we were delighted to welcome George from Lodestone House Catering to our Upper School assembly for an inspiring session on how to be an eco champion and make sustainable choices around food.

George spoke to the children about:

  • Eating seasonally and the benefits it brings to both our health and the planet
  • Which fruits and vegetables grow in each season, helping us make smarter choices
  • Reducing food waste and simple ways to avoid throwing food away
  • Recycling and reusing everyday items
  • How pollution harms our planet and why small actions matter

The children were fascinated to learn that the UK has over 100 different varieties of apples, and that one‑third of all land in the UK is used for farming. These facts helped them understand just how important sustainable food choices are.

George also shared some practical eco‑friendly tips the children could use everyday:

  • Turn off lights when leaving a room
  • Travel by public transport whenever possible
  • Turn off the tap while brushing their teeth
  • Reduce, reuse and recycle wherever you can

We are very much looking forward to welcoming Lodestone House Catering back to school for Stop Food Waste Day on Tuesday 5th May, where the children will continue their journey in learning how to care for the planet.
