Year 6 Mixed Hockey Festival at Ewell Castle

Our Year 6 mixed hockey team delivered an excellent afternoon of competitive play at the Ewell Castle Hockey Festival, finishing unbeaten across all three fixtures. The team demonstrated impressive skill, discipline and teamwork, growing in confidence with every game.

Match 1 – Draw vs Weston Green

The festival opened with a tightly contested match against Weston Green. From the first whistle, our players showed good structure and intelligent patterns of play, moving the ball confidently through midfield and creating several promising chances. Although the game finished in a draw, the team’s ability to stay composed under pressure and maintain possession laid the foundation for a strong tournament performance.

Match 2 – Win vs Ewell Castle

The players stepped up another level in their second match, securing a win against Ewell Castle. Strength on the ball was a clear highlight. Quick transitions from defence to attack caught the opposition off guard, leading to some excellent attacking passages of play.

Match 3 – Win vs Banstead

The final match saw the team at their best. Micklefield showed real confidence at the back, making calm and decisive tackles and working the ball out wide to launch several effective attacks. Their understanding of space and teamwork shone through, resulting in another win and a strong finish to the festival.

A special mention must go to one of the goalkeepers, Faye, who was deservedly voted Player of the Tournament. Volunteering to go in goal for the opening match, she produced two outstanding saves over the course of the afternoon - both crucial moments that kept the team in control.

Overall, it was a fantastic festival performance from the entire team. They should be incredibly proud of the way they represented the school - showing skill, positivity and great sportsmanship throughout

Year 5 and 6 Boys Hockey v Aberdour

On Wednesday, most of the Year 5 and 6 boys travelled to Aberdour School for our very first boys’ hockey fixture. Having enjoyed training at Hartswood in games lessons, the boys were looking forward to the challenge.

The A team had a tough game, sadly losing 7-2 to a strong Aberdour team.

The B team had an excellent game. Playing good possession based hockey from the start, they moved the ball well and created lots of chances to win 7-1.

The C team also had a very good game. Putting all their training into action, they played good hockey and also recorded a 7-1 win.

Very well played to all the boys.

Year 5 Girls Football v Reigate St Mary's

On Wednesday, the Year 5 girls enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of football in the sunshine, showing great spirit, teamwork and resilience throughout their matches.

The A Team faced a strong player in the RSM side and had a challenging game. Despite the tough opposition, the girls worked incredibly hard as a team, supporting one another and moving the ball up the pitch with determination. None of the team gave up and the second half was very close.

The B Team had a very successful game, securing a well-deserved win. The girls demonstrated excellent teamwork, making accurate passes and working hard to achieve the targets set by Mrs Harvey. Their focus and co-operation really showed on the pitch and helped them play some fantastic football.

A special mention goes to both Iva L and Isabelle C for their superb goalkeeping during the entire match, making some brilliant saves and showing great confidence in goal.

Well played to all the girls for representing the teams so positively!

Year 4 Mixed Football Festival

Year 4 children enjoyed a wonderful Thursday morning of football, thanks to the efforts of Mr Seneschell, who organised and hosted a fantastic football festival for both the boys and girls.

The morning began with training sessions led by RGS Head of Football, Mr Hoad, while Mr Day (also from RGS) delivered an engaging skills school session. The children had the opportunity to develop their techniques, build confidence and enjoy learning new football skills.

The girls then played in five matches, taking part in mixed teams alongside children from RSM and Chinthurst. The boys followed the same format, with everyone enjoying plenty of game time and the chance to play with and against new teammates.

Despite the chilly wind and light drizzle, the weather certainly didn’t dampen the children’s enthusiasm or spirits. It was a brilliant morning filled with teamwork, effort and plenty of smiles.

A big thank you to RGS for hosting such an enjoyable and well-organised event.
