A New Era for Micklefield School – Micklefield to join Reigate Grammar School Group

Micklefield School is delighted to announce that it will join the RGS Group from 28 June 2024.  This is a truly exciting private school merger and brings with it numerous long-term benefits.

This private school merger brings together schools with shared values, who are committed to educating children in and around Reigate and ensuring that local schools continue to thrive. Micklefield and RGS have worked closely together for many years - the Head of RGS, Mr Fenton and the Headmaster of Micklefield School, Mr Ardé, have a strong working relationship and many families are attending (and have attended) both schools.

It is from Micklefield School’s position of strength that it is well placed to merge with the RGS family of schools.  RGS is an excellent local senior school, which is nationally well-regarded and has received School of the Year awards in a number of categories in recent years. The RGS family of schools consists of RGS, Reigate St Mary’s (RSM), Chinthurst School in Tadworth, and a network of schools internationally. Micklefield School and each of the schools in the RGS family of schools were considered “Excellent” in their ISI inspections last year.

Micklefield School, as part of the RGS Group will still operate with a material degree of independence and – in particular – will continue to prepare children for a variety of local senior schools as it does today, ensuring that all children progress to the senior school that is right for them. This is the ethos of Micklefield School, and this will continue long into the future. 

Mr Fenton, Headmaster of RGS said, ‘Forming a partnership with the RGS family of schools (Reigate Grammar School, Reigate St Marys and Chinthurst School) will allow Micklefield School to seek further excellence through professional collaboration and enable them to better serve the children and young people in and around Reigate. This exciting partnership brings together school communities with shared values and a commitment to help the children of Micklefield School to thrive in the future.’

Mr Ardé, Headmaster of Micklefield School said, ‘The Partnership will strengthen and preserve the distinctive character of the Micklefield School provision and continue to develop excellence in teaching, curriculum opportunities and pastoral care.  This is a merger of equal partners with mutual benefits. RGS and Micklefield both share the same values and subscribe to the view that education is so much more than academic achievement alone.’
