Just after the Easter holiday eight of the Year 5 children took part in the UKMT Maths Challenge. This is a national maths competition aimed at children in Years 7 and 8. But I know that some of our Year 5 children love a challenge in Maths, so I always enter some even though they are two or three years younger than most of the entrants!

All 8 of the children pictured below had a really good attempt at the very challenging paper. All of them scored more than 20 points and this is an achievement in itself. To get a Bronze certificate this year they had to get more than 41 points, this put them in the top 40% of entrants! Three of our children managed to gain a Bronze certificate! Well done to Lauren, Tristan and Octavius. This really is quite an achievement for Year 5’s! They join Ella and Tabitha who achieved Bronze and Silver respectively last year, and Matthew who previously achieved Gold. I wonder which Year 4’s are going to be up for the challenge next year? Well done to all. Thank you also to Mr Bracken for helping with my challenge groups.
