On Wednesday 18th September, Year 3 children became archaeologists! They started the day learning about timelines and then went on a dig. They used tools to scrape away a peaty layer of soil to reveal buried artefacts before working their way through a layer of sand. They discovered pieces of pottery, Roman coins and shells. Later in the day they created realistic cave art using charcoal and crushed chalk mixed with water to make paint. They also learnt how to identify real flint tools and were fascinated to learn about the ancient mummy of a man frozen in the Alps over 5000 years ago.
