Creative Arts
Art and Design Technology
In Art and Design Technology we provide multi-sensory experiences to stimulate the children’s creativity and imagination. The children are enabled to develop informed aesthetic and practical judgements. They learn to work with others in group activities and to develop their own ideas as individuals.
The children are prepared for the technologies of a rapidly changing world. They are encouraged to think and plan creatively through problem solving and develop an inquisitive awareness of how things work, the importance of design and what materials and processes can do. Above all the children learn through exploration.
Music at Micklefield
We aim to develop the musical potential of every pupil and to provide opportunities in a variety of musical activities. In lessons pupils take part in singing, listening, musical appreciation and composition. Making music and performing in groups is also encouraged and we have three choirs, an orchestra and other ensembles including a flute choir, guitar group and wind band. In addition, the opportunity to learn a wide variety of musical instruments, including the drums, is offered with our peripatetic teachers.
Dance and Drama
In the Lower School pupils participate in a variety of styles of dancing and movement including ballet and modern dance. This is sometimes incorporated into the Lower School Christmas production which also includes singing and verse speaking.
In the Upper School a production, often a musical, is presented towards the end of the Summer Term. Weekly drama lessons help to improve the children’s confidence and poise, enabling them to perform well in social situations and interviews.
n addition, Speech and Drama is offered as an extra and our students have achieved highly in local festivals and public speaking competitions.
